The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a nonprofit organization that evaluates the crashworthiness of a vehicle through a series of tests. All of these exams are designed to assess the vehicle’s ability to maintain its structure in an accident as well as to shield the driver and passengers from serious injury.

There are a total of six tests that the IIHS uses to determine the safety of a vehicle. Included in these evaluations are a series of assessments that examine the vehicle’s roof strength as well as head restraint and seat duration in an accident.
